I have several things to catch up on posting, but lest you think we live perfect lives, (like social media, myself included, so often seems to imply) I thought I'd give a glance into what our past few days have been like.
Last week we had Elliott at the doctor 4 out of the 5 week days for a cough (that just won't let up!) that was causing him to wheeze when he took a breath, and a double ear infection. He ended up having a breathing treatment in the office, and was sent home with strong antibiotics and an inhaler. The antibiotics made him sick at his stomach, so we had to return 3 days in a row for an antibiotic shot.
Throughout the week he lost close to a pound as he refused all solid foods accepting only milk.
Over the weekend he seemed to be improving, accepting solid foods again and keeping them down. Meanwhile, Gary and I have been battling the same cough for over a month, cocking it up to Arkansas allergies and assuming it would "work its way out eventually".
Well Tuesday night it all caught up with us! I came home from work after a long day of battling a headache, extreme fatigue, and an achy body to find Gary and Elliott asleep in our bed with fevers of 103.6 (Elliott) and 102.6 (Gary). Gary said he had the worst headache of his life and Elliott woke up hitting his little head with his hand, so I could only assume he felt the same way. I got them both going on ibuprofen and called the after hours line at our doctor's office. I was told to keep them on ibuprofen around the clock to keep their fever down and get them in to see the doctor first thing in the morning.
Once I got them feeling better and sleeping, I finally got to go check on Lola, who had jumped our fence while we were at work and was returned with a bloody paw by a kind neighbor earlier in the evening. Giving the paw a look, I could tell she needed stitches, so I loaded her up and took her to the after hours clinic nearby, (I know it just keeps getting better, huh?) where I waited for 2 hours to be told that she did need stitches, but they were so booked that it would be 7 hours before they could do it and close to $750. Needless to say, I opted to wait until in the morning when I could take her to our regular vet.
By the time I got home and sat down for a minute, I realized how terrible I was feeling. I took my temp, and sure enough, I was over 100 degrees as well.
Wednesday morning I called and moved my clients and got us all 3 doctor's appointments, where both Gary and Elliott's chest x-rays revealed they had pneumonia. I, thankfully, only had the viral junk that led to their pneumonia (I guess the Lord knew I needed to be well enough to take care of my boys). Gary received a breathing treatment at the doctor's office, and we picked up six perscriptiosns at the pharmacy to divide among the 3 of us (praise the Lord for health insurance!).
Our sweet vet stapled and bandaged Lola's paw and gave her an antibiotic shot free of charge, because I think he felt sorry for us.
We all feel SO much better now! E goes back to the doctor Monday for his 9 month shots and a check up and Gary will go back for another chest x-ray in a month.
So that's what has been going on in our neck of the woods... Check back for a more uplifting post in a few days :)
