We're headed to the beach tomorrow, so I'll be absent for a week[ish]. Looking forward to some down time in the sun and sand with some of my favorites.  Happy weekend, friends!

Weekend Recap

This past weekend three of Gary's closest childhood friends [along with their better halves] came to visit, making the trip from Dallas and New York to meet us in Hot Springs for a couple of days at the lake.  Two of his friends briefly met Elliott when we were in Texas earlier this summer, but for one, this was the first time seeing our little man.

We enjoyed taking the boat out, cooling off in the lake, dinner on the water at Fisherman's Wharf, playing games, making smores, watching Elliott entertain us with his every move, and just catching up on each others lives.  Of course in packing all of E's stuff for the weekend, I ran off and left our camera at home, but I did get a few photos from our weekend on my iPhone.

This was our first time taking Elliott out on the boat, and I have to brag on how good he did hanging with us.  He never once fussed about having to wear a life jacket, stayed happy and content for several hours out on the water, and even let us put him in the water to cool off.  I think he's gonna be a little fish next summer.  I'm going to have to find some Mom and tot swim lessons for us.  We held him and put him in the lake in his life jacket for a few minutes, and he loved it!  He started kicking those little feet the moment they hit the water, and the boat, when moving lulled him instantly to sleep.

It was so nice of Reid, Stephen, and Stanton to plan a time to come visit Gary and make the drive/flight to Arkansas.  I know it meant a lot to him to have them here and get to see them interact with Elliott.  We loved hosting them at the lake house [thanks to my parents] and showing them a little of what "The Natural State" has to offer.

Dedication Sunday.

Last night was Elliott's dedication at church.  Dedicating him is a way of showing outwardly our commitment to raise him in church, teach him about Jesus, and guide him spiritually as he grows.  We acknowledge that Elliott is a child of God, entrusted to us during our time on Earth.  We desire to be faithful to fulfill our calling as Christian parents.  Our church and family also committed to pray for us as we parent Elliott, and pray that Elliott would one day come to know Jesus as his Savior and Lord.

It was a very special day for our family.  We had 20 family members and friends who came to see Elliott dedicated.  We feel so thankful that he has so many who love and care for him, and who will be praying for his salvation as he grows.

After the service we celebrated with coffee and dessert at our house, including a time of prayer for Elliott.  It was truly a joyous occasion.

The Texans come to town.

This weekend, Gary's parents, sister and brother-in-law came to visit for Elliott's dedication at church [more on that soon].  Gina did a wonderful job capturing our weekend together, so I thought I'd share a few favorites.  We played with Elliott, ate, watched The Shining, ate, caught up on each others lives, and did I mention we ate?

I loved having them here and getting to watch them interact with Elliott.  He thought grandpa was too funny, practicing his new trick of sticking his tongue out and blowing every time he was in eyesight.  We wish they lived closer, but we're thankful we get to see them every couple of months.

I'm looking forward to sharing more from our weekend, including Elliott's dedication tonight, but it will have to wait for tomorrow, my bed is calling.

Elliott: Sweet Child of Mine.

We finally began going through some of the video footage Gary has been taking of Elliott over the past 6 months. Yesterday we worked on editing the footage from the first week. I thought I'd share a look into the week that forever changed our lives for the better. I get teary every time I watch it.  It was such a sweet week. I never want to forget it.
